Red Flags: Programs to Avoid

No ASE Education Foundation accreditation. This is the clearest signal that a program has not been validated against industry standards. Some new programs may be in the process of seeking accreditation, which is understandable — but verify the timeline and get it in writing.

Finishing a technical program is the beginning of a career, not the end of your training. The technicians who build the best careers treat formal schooling as the foundation and then build on it aggressively.
A realistic career path from graduation looks something like this:
- Entry-level general service technician (0-2 years) — Oil changes, tire rotations, filters, basic brake work. You are building speed, shop culture awareness, and the habits that will carry you forward. This is not where you stay, but it is where you start.
